Take Time for Fun Update for the week of January 19, 2009
• Friday Night Fish Fry— The Oak Lawn Park District’s Stony Creek Clubhouse, located at 5850 W. 103rd St., will be hosting a Friday Night Fish Fry every Friday evening from 5 – 8 pm, January 2 through April 10. The all-you-can-eat buffet will feature Dixie crunch white fish, Corona battered cod, vegetables, double baked potato casserole, salad and fresh rolls with butter. Cost for the buffet is $12.99 for adults and $9 for children 10 and under. A shrimp dinner and a baked tilapia dinner will also be available for $13.99. Beverages are extra. • Date Change – Greenhouse Groupies Informational Meeting - The Oak Lawn Park District is looking for volunteers to help care for and propagate plants this spring. Meetings will be held up to two times per week at the Stony Creek Golf Course Greenhouse (5850 W. 103rd St.). Dolly Foster, the park district’s horticulturist, will be the facilitator of this group. An informational meeting will be held at the greenhouse on Monday, January 19 from 10 – 11 am. For more information, please contact Dolly Foster at 708-857-2225.
• Teen Theme Night - The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting another Teen Theme Night at the Teen Center (9400 S. Oak Park Ave.) on January 23 from 6 to 9:30 pm. The theme for the evening is Hawaiian Party, so come dressed in your favorite Hawaiian shirt. Bring your friends and enjoy everything from cards to air hockey and Twister to Wii and dancing. No parents allowed. There will be supervisors present. Everyone ages 10 to 16 welcome. Admission is only $5 at the door or $4 if you dress in the theme. Best dressed in the theme receives a prize bag that night. Concessions are available. For large groups, please call Colleen at 708-857-2200 ahead of time.
• Once Upon a Time… Stories and Crafts – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering Once Upon a Time… Stories and Crafts for children ages 4-7. Children will hear a new story every week and create a craft project that goes along with the theme of the story. Classes will be held at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) on Tuesdays, January 27 – March 3, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Fee is $30 for Oak Lawn residents and $42 for non-residents. • Messy Fingers – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering Messy Fingers, for children ages 15 months – 3 years, beginning Saturday, February 7. This program is designed for tots & parent or grandparent to participate in fun, hands-on projects and activities. The hour will be filled with different stations where each tot is able to explore, manipulate and create. Craft projects will also be made, allowing interaction between parents/grandparents and tots. Classes will be held at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) on Saturdays, February 7 – May 2, from 9 – 10 am and 10:15 – 11:15 am. Fee is $60 for Oak Lawn residents and $84 for non-residents. • Friday Night Out…for Parents – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering Friday Night Out…for Parents. This program is designed for tot’s ages 3 - 5. Parents can feel confident leaving their child for a couple of hours so that they may enjoy some time alone or with friends. A qualified instructor will supervise the children in a safe and fun environment. Children will enjoy spending time with other children while they color, paint, create crafts, enjoy games, activities and story and movie time. Please bring a snack and beverage for your child. Please call the Oak View Center, 708-857-2200, by 4 pm the prior day to ensure your child’s spot - or you can register for the entire eight-week session. Minimum enrollment is required to run a class. Please note: children must be potty trained. Classes will be held at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) on Fridays, February 6 – March 20, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Fee is $72 for Oak Lawn residents and $101 for non-residents. • Family Valentine’s Party and Open Skate - The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting a Valentine's Party on Sunday, February 8 at the Oak Lawn Ice Arena (9320 S. Kenton) from 1:20 – 2:50 pm. Fee is $7 per person. Skate rental is an additional $3 per pair. Music will be provided by CMT productions. Each skater will receive a treat bag. Children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. For more information call 708-857-5173.
• Rubber-Stamping Workshops — Learn the easy art of rubber-stamping at the Oak Lawn Park District. The next workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 10 from 7 – 9:30 pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St). Participants will complete several projects, including greeting cards and gift bags, using various techniques. Samples of how to add stamping to your scrapbook pages will also be shown. Please bring your own colored pencils and scissors. Workshops are open to those ages 18 and up. Fee is $9.50 for Oak Lawn residents and $11.50 for non-residents.
