• Grand Re-Opening of Sullivan Park - Please join the Oak Lawn Park District Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, July 7 for the Grand Re-Opening of Sullivan Park (99th & Kostner). The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 6:30 pm with entertainment by the park district’s IndepenDance Dance Team and the Special Recreation Hip Hop Dancers. • Preschool Registration – It is not too early to register for the Oak Lawn Park District’s 2010/2011 preschool programs. The park district offers affordable, quality preschool classes for 3- to 5-year-olds. The preschool programs—Learn As You Grow I, Learn As You Grow II, Play School and Prep School—are offered at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) and the Little White Building in Lake Shore Park (96th Street and East Shore Drive) and are taught by qualified instructors. • Cityscapes - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering three fun excursions to Chicago this summer. Trips include a Grant Park concert on Wednesday, August 18 as well as a day at Navy Pier on September 1. Fee for each trip is $13 for Oak Lawn residents and $15 for non-residents, which includes transportation. • Outdoor Youth Soccer League– Registration is under way for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Outdoor Youth Soccer League. Outdoor Youth Soccer is open to those ages 6-9 with two age divisions determined by the child's age as of August 1, 2010. Games will be played on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Practice will begin in early to mid-August. A coach will contact the players about practices. Fee is $75 for Oak Lawn residents and $99 for nonresidents. Register before July 2 and get $10 off. • Outdoor Youth Traveling League - Registration is under way for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Outdoor Youth Traveling League. The Outdoor Youth Traveling League is open to those ages 10 - 13 with two age divisions determined by the child's age as of August 1, 2010. Teams in this league will be formed by a blind draft process and will compete in the South Suburban Soccer League. Games will be played on Saturdays. Practice will begin in early to mid-August. This new introductory soccer league is designed to help transition children into team play. Small sided, non-competitive games will be played. The league will be run in a low-key environment and the coaches will be more hands on during games. Games will be played on Saturdays. Practice varies in times and days and will begin in early to mid-August. A coach will contact the players about practices. Fee is $59 for Oak Lawn residents and $79 for nonresidents. • Tai Chi—The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another session of Tai Chi beginning Monday, July 12 and continuing through August 30. Classes will be held Monday evenings from 7 - 8:00 pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th). Tai Chi combines proper breathing techniques with circular movements that are graceful and similar to dance. The class does not just go through the motions: participants will be worked with one-on-one and posture may be corrected physically. This program is open to individuals 18 years and older. • Trip: Apple Holler Show & Lunch - On Wednesday, July 28 the Oak Lawn Park District is hosting a trip to Apple Holler in Sturtevant, WI. You will enjoy wine, cider and cheese sampling and a production of “Trouble at the Tropicana” an I Love Lucy spoof. Lunch will be a Latin themed meal. The Motor coach will depart the Community Pavilion at 8:30 am and return at 6:30 pm. Fee is $84 for Oak Lawn residents and $94 for non-residents. Registration deadline is July 14. • Family Camp-Out! - Come out and enjoy summer camping under the stars at The Oak Lawn Park District’s Wolf Wildlife Refuge (109th & Laramie) on Friday, July 30. Participants will enjoy a scavenger hunt, late night campfire, hot dog and marshmallow roast, and a continental breakfast. You must provide your own tent, sleeping bags and camping equipment. Fee is $8 for Oak Lawn residents ages 13 and up and $10 for non-residents ages 13 and up. Fee is $5 for Oak Lawn residents ages 12 and under and $6 for non-residents ages 12 and under. • 31st Annual Tennis Tournament - The Oak Lawn Park District will host the 31st Annual Oak Lawn Tennis Tournament beginning Friday, July 30 and running through Sunday, August 1 at the Oak Lawn Park District’s Racquet, Fitness and Gymnastics Center, 10444 S. Central Ave. The tournament offers a weekend of indoor tennis matches for different age groups and skill levels. All USTA rules will apply to tournament matches. There is a limited draw and an 8-player minimum for each event. Trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner up in each division. The registration fee is $12 for singles and $20 for doubles. • Before & After School With FLASH – FLASH, Fun & Learning After School Hours - Register now for the 2010/2011 school year. The Oak Lawn Park District has partnered up with School District 123 for the 2nd year and is expanding to all 5 elementary schools, Covington, Hannum, Hometown, Kolmar, & Sward. The park district has also partnered up with School District 122 and their 4 elementary schools, Columbus Manor, Harnew, Kolb, & Lieb to provide FLASH for the 2010/2011 school year. • Visit the Indoor Playground at the Community Pavilion - If you have to stay inside, than play inside! The Oak Lawn Park District’s indoor playground will be available for use any time the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak park Ave.) is open for business. Open gym fees apply and a parent or guardian must be present with their child or children at all times. The indoor playground is a non-park district staff supervised area. The indoor playground is also now available to rent for parties. It can be rented alone or with a court to expand your party. Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance. • Massage Therapy at the Community Pavilion - Sandra Coffey is available by appointment only. Massage therapy is used to reduce stress, increase circulation and detoxify overexerted muscles. Come out once a month to discuss, review, and suggest new ideas or program strategies. Also, meet other parents of children with disabilities. Open gym fees apply and a parent or guardian must be present with their child or children at all times. The indoor playground is a non-park district staff supervised area. The indoor playground is also now available to rent for parties. It can be rented alone or with a court to expand your party. Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance. • Massage Therapy at the Community Pavilion - Sandra Coffey is available by appointment only. Massage therapy is used to reduce stress, increase circulation and detoxify overexerted muscles. • Parent & Child Playtime – The Oak Lawn Park District’s Special Recreation Department is offering a Parent & Child Playtime Program that will meet at the Dream Center (9600 E. Shore Dr.) on Saturdays beginning June 5 from 10 – 11am. This program is a great opportunity for you to play with your child(ren) while connecting with others in a wonderful park-like setting. Experienced and knowledgeable staff will be on hand. This program is open to children ages newborn through 3. • Parent Forum & Support Group for Parents of Children with Disabilities – The Oak Lawn Park District’s Special Recreation Department offers a monthly Parent Forum & Support Group for Parents of Children with Disabilities the third Thursday of every month at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., beginning at 7 pm. Come out once a month to discuss, review, and suggest new ideas or program strategies. Also, meet other parents of children with disabilities.
