• Winter Holiday- Break Day Camp – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a fun Winter Break Holiday camp for those in grades K- 6. The camp is three days – Tuesday, December 28, Wednesday, December 29 and Thursday, December 30 from 9 am – 2 pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th). Sign up for one, two or all three days. Have some holiday fun participating in many activities. Each day participants will make holiday crafts, watch movies and play games. Our summer day camp staff will be running the camp. Bring a lunch with a beverage and wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes. Fee for each day is $20 for Oak Lawn residents and $24 for non-residents. Registration deadline is December 20. • NEW – Preschool Mini Camp Snowflake – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a new mini camp for those in preschool, Camp Snowflake. Each day campers will have story-time, do crafts, watch movies and have individual playtime. Session one is December 20 – 22 from 10:15 am – 1:45 pm at the Little White Building. Session two is December 28 – 30 from 10:15 am – 1:45 pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th). Fee for each session is $55 for Oak Lawn residents and $65 for non-residents. • Winter Holiday Break Workshops – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering two fun holiday break workshops for those in grades K – 8 at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th). The first workshop is Holiday Diversity fun and is on Wednesday, December 22 from 2-3:30 pm. This workshop explores various holiday celebrations from around the world. Participants will create crafts and learn about different customs. Fee for this workshop is $8 for Oak Lawn residents and $10 for non-residents. The second workshop is Gingerbread House Decorating and is on Thursday, December 23 from 1-2:30 pm. The house and supplies will be provided. Wear old clothes and bring a smock or apron and a container to take your gingerbread house home in. Fee for this workshop is $18 for Oak Lawn residents and $20 for non-residents.


• New Year’s Eve Comedy Night - The Oak Lawn Park District’s Stony Creek Clubhouse (5850 W. 103rd) is hosting a 21 and over Comedy Night on New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31, 2010. Doors open at 7:30 pm with dinner at 8 pm and entertainment beginning at 9:30 pm. There will be a champagne toast at midnight. Admission for the show is $20 at the door. Dinner is available for $10, with your choice of steak or chicken piccatta. Dinner reservation deadline is December 27. There will also be a cash bar available. • New Years’ Eve Kids’ Countdown and Family Skate! - On Friday, December 31st the Oak Lawn Park District will host a New Years’ Eve Kids’ Countdown and Family Skate at the Oak Lawn Park District Ice Arena (9320 S. Kenton Ave., Oak Lawn, IL 60453) from 11 am - 1:30 pm. Come party at this special family skate. Skating participants will receive a New Year’s Eve-style party hat and noisemaker to help cheer in 2011! CMT Productions will provide great music and lighting and will lead the crowd in the countdown. This is a very popular event. Please come early to ensure you will have time to get your skates on and be on the ice to celebrate. Admission at the door is $8.00 per skater. Skate rental is $3.00. • Casting Call - The Oak Lawn Park District Theatre group has announced a casting call for its upcoming production of The Drowsy Chaperone. • Golf Simulators – Golf simulators will be available at Stony Creek Golf Course this winter. It is also a great opportunity to play some famous courses and help keep your swing in shape. • Before & After School With FLASH – FLASH, Fun & Learning After School Hours - Register now for the 2010/2011 school year. The Oak Lawn Park District has partnered up with School District 123 for the 2nd year and is expanding to all 5 elementary schools, Covington, Hannum, Hometown, Kolmar, & Sward. The park district has also partnered up with School District 122 and their 4 elementary schools, Columbus Manor, Harnew, Kolb, & Lieb to provide FLASH for the 2010/2011 school year. • Community Pavilion Main Arena Rental - Attention high schools, colleges and businesses: Have your special event with us! The Oak Lawn Park District’s Community Pavilion is available for rentals. The arena measures 28,000 sq. ft. and can seat up to 1,000 people at tables and chairs, or 3,500 with chairs only. Reservations must be made at least six months in advance with 50% down. Payment is non-refundable after 90 days. Contact the assistant manager at (708) 857-2420 or pavilion@olparks.com.


• Indoor Playground at the Community Pavilion - The indoor playground is now available for parties: Playground rental is $45 per hour with a max of 25 children. Rental includes tables and chairs. Renter is responsible for all party decorations and refreshments (no confetti please). Add a basketball court for $20 per hour for residents and $40 per hour for non-residents. • Massage Therapy at the Community Pavilion - Sandra Coffey is available by appointment only. Massage therapy is used to reduce stress, increase circulation and detoxify overexerted muscles. Come out once a month to discuss, review, and suggest new ideas or program strategies. Also, meet other parents of children with disabilities. Casting Call: The Drowsy Chaperone auditions to be held in Oak Lawn



The Oak Lawn Park District Theatre group has announced a casting call for its upcoming production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Auditions will be held Sunday, January 9 from 1-5pm and Monday, January 10 from 7:30-10pm. Come in proper attire and be prepared to sing a song from the show. Auditions will be held at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th Street and are open to those in high school (with proper ID) & older. The Drowsy Chaperone will run for two consecutive weekends, March 18-20 and March 25-27.

• Grand Re-Opening of Shubert Park - Please join the Oak Lawn Park District Board of Commissioners on Monday, November 8 for the Grand Re-Opening of Shubert Park (90th & Mayfield). The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 4 pm. Refreshments will be served immediately following the ribbon cutting at the park. • Pavilion Fitness Classes – The next session of fitness classes at the Community Pavilion begins the week of November 14. • Wrestling Club - Learn the skills and fundamentals of wrestling under experienced supervision At the Oak Lawn Park District. The Oak Lawn Park District’s wrestling club includes qualified coaches, meets and tournaments. Practices will be held at Oak Lawn High School from 6-8pm. Beginners will practice Monday & Wednesday. Advanced will practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Free for this program is $135. There is a $50 deposit for wrestling singlet. • Little Kickers Soccer League - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a new Little Kickers Soccer League for those ages 4 -5. This new introductory soccer league is designed to help transition children into team play. Small sided, non-competitive games will be played. The league will be run in a low-key environment and the coaches will be more hands on during games. Games will be played on Saturdays. Practices will begin December 4 and play will begin in January. A coach will contact the players about practices. Fee is $59 for Oak Lawn residents and $79 for nonresidents. For more information call 708-857-2420. Register before November 10 and get $10 off. • Youth Indoor Soccer Draft League - The Oak Lawn Park District is taking registrations for the Youth Indoor Soccer Draft League at the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak park Ave.). This league is open to girls and boys ages 6-13. Teams will begin practicing December 12 and games will begin in January. Game times will vary. Age divisions are determined by the child’s age as of September 1, 2010. Early Bird registration runs through November 10. Fee is $79 for Oak Lawn residents and $105 for nonresidents. • High School Girls Indoor Soccer Competitive League - Teams are forming now for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Girls High School Indoor Soccer Competitive League. Teams will play against local high school and club competition teams. Game days and times vary. Fee is $775 for teams with 51% or more Oak Lawn residents and $795 for teams with 50% or less Oak Lawn residents. Please call the Pavilion for more information at 708-857-2420.


• Pavilion Co-Ed Basketball Leagues - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering co-ed basketball leagues for boys and girls ages 5-8. This program offers instruction, as well as competitive basketball games. Team play and sportsmanship will be stressed. Age divisions are as of September 1, 2010. Birth certificates may be requested. Teams will practice starting December 10 and league play will begin in January. Fee is $79 for Oak Lawn residents and $105 for nonresidents. For more information call 708-857-2420. • Youth Volleyball Programs - The Oak Lawn Park is offering two youth volleyball programs this winter. The Beginner Volleyball program, for children ages 6-10, stresses bumping, setting, serving, jumping, rotating and proper footwork for each skill. The next session begins on Tuesday, November 16 from 4:45-5:45 pm.
The Intermediate/Advanced Volleyball program is geared for children ages 10-14. This instructional program stresses overhand serving, passing, setting, spiking, conditioning and footwork. Participants will gain an overall knowledge of team strategy. The next session begins on Tuesday, November 16 from 5:45-6:45 pm. Both programs will allow participants to learn the game and increase their skill level under the supervision of experienced volleyball instructors. Classes will be held at the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave. Program fee is $39 for Oak Lawn residents and $49 for non-residents. • Trip: “Songs of the Season” Show and Luncheon – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a trip to White Pines Dinner Theatre in Mt. Morris, IL on Wednesday, December 1. Hear Maureen Christine perform fresh and genuine renditions of favorite holiday songs and enjoy a fabulous home cooked buffet luncheon. The motorcoach bus will depart from the Community pavilion at 9 am and return at 5:30 pm. Fee for this trip is $70 for Oak Lawn residents and $80 for non-residents. • Turkey Shoot Basketball Free-Throw Contest - The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting the 15th Annual Turkey Shoot free throw competition on Sunday, November 21 beginning at 11am at the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak park Ave.). Teams will be made up of one parent and one child and will be grouped by the children's age. Parents may compete with more than one child. All ages welcome, but you must register in advance. Mini-basketballs and nets will be used for the younger children. There will be raffle prizes for all children participating. • Winter/Spring 2010/2011 Program Guides will be delivered the last week of October!

• Spookview – NEW Time! - Join the Oak Lawn Park District on Saturday, October 23 for the Annual Spookview Halloween Event at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.). Activities will begin at 1 pm with the Kid’s Costume parade. Admission is free and activities range from $.50 - $2. New this year is an all-inclusive wristband for $10. Activities include: Chilling TRAIN, Ghoulish Games, Spooky Tattoos, Eerie Crafts, Frightening Haunted Bus, Hallowing Movies, Fairy & Gnome Garden room, Little Mermaid room, Spooktoon Network room, Blackhawk Island room. Haunting Halloween Tales will be at 5:00pm.


• Trick or Treat on Ice - The Oak Lawn Park District’s Ice Arena is hosting the Annual Trick or Treat on Ice on Sunday, October 31 from 1 -2:30pm. This special event for the family is sure to be full of ghoulish fun. A DJ will provide music and fun times for this family event. The Ice Arena is located at 9320 S. Kenton Ave. Admission is $6 per person and skate rental is $3.


• Park Renovations – Renovations to Shubert Park at 90th and Mayfield are underway and should be completed by mid-November. The new park will have a play structure for ages 2 to 5 and a structure intended for ages 5 to 12. Independent play pieces will include a track ride, sky runner spinner, buck about bounce toy and a web climber.

• Fall Cleanup in the Garden – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another garden lecture on Monday, September 13 at the Oak View Center at 6:30pm. The topic of this lecture is Fall Cleanup in the Garden. Fee for the lecture is $5 and registration is required. Fall is the perfect time to start a compost pile with your leaves, plant trees, clean up your garden beds and prepare your roses for winter. Other topics that will be covered include: cleaning your tools and storing them properly to help them last longer; fall mulching can mean the difference between plants living or dying; learn how to over winter annual plants and take cuttings to keep specific plants over winter. • Woofstock – A festival for dogs and people! - The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting the first Woofstock Festival on Sunday, September 19th from Noon – 3 p.m. at Wolfe Wildlife Refuge (109th & Laramie). The event will include: Dog Parade (real & stuffed dogs welcome), Contests, Dog Fashion Show, Doggie Dashes, Rally Demonstration, Ask the Trainer booth, Vender Booths, Concessions and Raffles. • Open Mic Night – The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting an Open Mic Night at the Stony Creek Clubhouse on Friday, September 24 from 7-10pm. • Trip – Red Herring Show & Luncheon – Join the Oak Lawn Park District on Thursday, September 30 at the Noble Fool Theatre at the Pheasant Run Resort for an afternoon of Murder Mystery Comedy. The play Red Herring is set in 1952 and is about three love stories, a murder mystery and nuclear espionage. The motor coach will depart from the Community Pavilion at 11am and return at 5:30pm. Fee, which includes lunch, is $70 for Oak Lawn residents and $80 for non-residents.


• Trip – Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Show and Luncheon - Join the Oak lawn Park District as we travel to the Theatre at the Center in Munster, In on Wednesday, October 6 to see a production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The play is based on the 1988 film of the same name. The motor coach will depart from the Oak View Center at 11am and return at 5pm. Fee, which includes lunch, is $65 for Oak Lawn residents and $75 for non-residents.


• Trip –Scarecrow Festival and Fox River Cruise – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a trip to St. Charles, IL for the 25th Annual Scarecrow Festival on Friday, October 8. The trip features an hour -long boat cruise down the Fox River followed by time on your own to explore the festival, downtown area and the river walk. Wear comfortable shoes. Lunch is on your own. The motor coach will depart from the Communty Pavilion at 9am and return at 5pm. Fee is $35 for Oak Lawn residents and $45 for non-residents.

The park district has also partnered up with School District 122 and their 4 elementary schools, Columbus Manor, Harnew, Kolb, & Lieb to provide FLASH for the 2010/2011 school year. • Visit the Indoor Playground at the Community Pavilion - If you have to stay inside, than play inside! The Oak Lawn Park District’s indoor playground will be available for use any time the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak park Ave.) is open for business. Open gym fees apply and a parent or guardian must be present with their child or children at all times. The indoor playground is a non-park district staff supervised area. The indoor playground is also now available to rent for parties. It can be rented alone or with a court to expand your party. Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance. • Outdoor Youth Soccer League– Registration is under way for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Outdoor Youth Soccer League. Outdoor Youth Soccer is open to those ages 6-9 with two age divisions determined by the child's age as of August 1, 2010. Games will be played on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Practice will begin in early to mid-August. A coach will contact the players about practices. Fee is $75 for Oak Lawn residents and $99 for nonresidents. A $10 late fee will be applied to registrations received after July 9.


• Outdoor Youth Traveling League - Registration is under way for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Outdoor Youth Traveling League. The Outdoor Youth Traveling League is open to those ages 10 - 13 with two age divisions determined by the child's age as of August 1, 2010. Teams in this league will be formed by a blind draft process and will compete in the South Suburban Soccer League. Games will be played on Saturdays. Practice will begin in early to mid-August. • Little Kickers Soccer League – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a new Little Kickers Soccer League for those ages 4 -5. This new introductory soccer league is designed to help transition children into team play. Small sided, non-competitive games will be played. The league will be run in a low-key environment and the coaches will be more hands on during games. Games will be played on Saturdays. Practice varies in times and days and will begin in early to mid-August. A coach will contact the players about practices. Fee is $59 for Oak Lawn residents and $79 for nonresidents. • Tai Chi—The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another session of Tai Chi beginning Monday, July 12 and continuing through August 30. Classes will be held Monday evenings from 7 - 8:00 pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th). Tai Chi combines proper breathing techniques with circular movements that are graceful and similar to dance. The class does not just go through the motions: participants will be worked with one-on-one and posture may be corrected physically. This program is open to individuals 18 years and older. • Family Camp-Out! - Come out and enjoy summer camping under the stars at The Oak Lawn Park District’s Wolf Wildlife Refuge (109th & Laramie) on Friday, July 30. Participants will enjoy a scavenger hunt, late night campfire, hot dog and marshmallow roast, and a continental breakfast. You must provide your own tent, sleeping bags and camping equipment. Fee is $8 for Oak Lawn residents ages 13 and up and $10 for non-residents ages 13 and up. Fee is $5 for Oak Lawn residents ages 12 and under and $6 for non-residents ages 12 and under. • 31st Annual Tennis Tournament - The Oak Lawn Park District will host the 31st Annual Oak Lawn Tennis Tournament beginning Friday, July 30 and running through Sunday, August 1 at the Oak Lawn Park District’s Racquet, Fitness and Gymnastics Center, 10444 S. Central Ave. The tournament offers a weekend of indoor tennis matches for different age groups and skill levels. All USTA rules will apply to tournament matches. There is a limited draw and an 8-player minimum for each event. Trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner up in each division. The registration fee is $12 for singles and $20 for doubles. • Preschool Registration – It is not too early to register for the Oak Lawn Park District’s 2010/2011 preschool programs. The park district offers affordable, quality preschool classes for 3- to 5-year-olds. The preschool programs—Learn As You Grow I, Learn As You Grow II, Play School and Prep School—are offered at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) and the Little White Building in Lake Shore Park (96th Street and East Shore Drive) and are taught by qualified instructors. • Cityscapes - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering three fun excursions to Chicago this summer. Trips include two Grant Park concerts on Wednesday, June 23 and August 18 as well as a day at Navy Pier on September 1. Fee for each trip is $13 for Oak Lawn residents and $15 for non-residents, which includes transportation. • Outdoor Youth Soccer League – Registration is under way for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Outdoor Youth Soccer League. Outdoor Youth Soccer is open to those ages 6-9 with two age divisions determined by the child's age as of August 1, 2010. Games will be played on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Practice will begin in early to mid-August. A coach will contact the players about practices. Fee is $75 for Oak Lawn residents and $99 for nonresidents. Register before July 2 and get $10 off. A $10 late fee will be applied to registrations received after July 9.


• Outdoor Youth Traveling League - Registration is under way for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Outdoor Youth Traveling League. The Outdoor Youth Traveling League is open to those ages 10 - 13 with two age divisions determined by the child's age as of August 1, 2010. Teams in this league will be formed by a blind draft process and will compete in the South Suburban Soccer League. Games will be played on Saturdays. Practice will begin in early to mid-August. • Little Kickers Soccer League – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a new Little Kickers Soccer League for those ages 4 -5. This new introductory soccer league is designed to help transition children into team play. Small sided, non-competitive games will be played. The league will be run in a low-key environment and the coaches will be more hands on during games. Games will be played on Saturdays. Practice varies in times and days and will begin in early to mid-August. A coach will contact the players about practices. Fee is $59 for Oak Lawn residents and $79 for nonresidents. • Tai Chi - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another session of Tai Chi beginning Monday, July 12 and continuing through August 30. Classes will be held Monday evenings from 7 - 8:00 pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th). Tai Chi combines proper breathing techniques with circular movements that are graceful and similar to dance. The class does not just go through the motions: participants will be worked with one-on-one and posture may be corrected physically. This program is open to individuals 18 years and older. • Trip: Apple Holler Show & Lunch - On Wednesday, July 28 the Oak Lawn Park District is hosting a trip to Apple Holler in Sturtevant, WI. You will enjoy wine, cider and cheese sampling and a production of “Trouble at the Tropicana” an I Love Lucy spoof. Lunch will be a Latin themed meal. The Motor coach will depart the Community Pavilion at 8:30 am and return at 6:30 pm. Fee is $84 for Oak Lawn residents and $94 for non-residents. Registration deadline is July 14. • Family Camp-Out! - Come out and enjoy summer camping under the stars at The Oak Lawn Park District’s Wolf Wildlife Refuge (109th & Laramie) on Friday, July 30. Participants will enjoy a scavenger hunt, late night campfire, hot dog and marshmallow roast, and a continental breakfast. You must provide your own tent, sleeping bags and camping equipment. Fee is $8 for Oak Lawn residents ages 13 and up and $10 for non-residents ages 13 and up. Fee is $5 for Oak Lawn residents ages 12 and under and $6 for non-residents ages 12 and under. • Before & After School With FLASH – FLASH, Fun & Learning After School Hours - Register now for the 2010/2011 school year. The Oak Lawn Park District has partnered up with School District 123 for the 2nd year and is expanding to all 5 elementary schools, Covington, Hannum, Hometown, Kolmar, & Sward. The park district has also partnered up with School District 122 and their 4 elementary schools, Columbus Manor, Harnew, Kolb, & Lieb to provide FLASH for the 2010/2011 school year. • Visit the Indoor Playground at the Community Pavilion - If you have to stay inside, than play inside! The Oak Lawn Park District’s indoor playground will be available for use any time the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak park Ave.) is open for business. Open gym fees apply and a parent or guardian must be present with their child or children at all times. The indoor playground is a non-park district staff supervised area.
The indoor playground is also now available to rent for parties. It can be rented alone or with a court to expand your party. Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance. Call 708-857-2420 for more information about daily fees and party package prices.


• Massage Therapy at the Community Pavilion - Sandra Coffey is available by appointment only. Massage therapy is used to reduce stress, increase circulation and detoxify overexerted muscles. • Personal Training at the Community Pavilion - Meet with a certified Personal Trainer who will design a program to improve your cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance. Come out once a month to discuss, review, and suggest new ideas or program strategies. Also, meet other parents of children with disabilities. • Family & Friends CPR Course – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a Family & Friends CPR Course on Monday, June 14 from 6:30 -8:30 pm at he Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Av.). This American Heart Association’s Family & Friends CPR course is for everyone from schoolchildren to older family members, caregivers and other adults who care for people at risk of sudden cardiac death. This course focuses on CPR and response to choking and helps participants: recognize signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults, children and infants. This is not a certification course but will prepare you to act in an emergency especially with loved ones. Participants will receive Family and Friends CPR book. • Community CPR/Heartsaver First Aid/CPR – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a Community CPR/Heartsaver First Aid/CPR Course on Thursday, June 17 from 5-9 pm at he Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Av.). This course is designed for those non-professional healthcare providers who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency on the job. This course teaches you how to recognize an emergency. Adult, Child and infant CPR techniques are taught in addition to rescue techniques for choking victims. AED use will also be covered. Completion of this course gives a 2-year certification in accordance with the American Heart Associations guidelines. All participants will be issued a Heartsaver Student Workbook and a certification card. Fee for this course is $49 for Oak Lawn residents and $65 non-residents. • EVP Spiking 101 Beach Camp - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering an EVP Spiking 101 Beach Volleyball Camp Monday, June 14 through Thursday, June 17. The camp will meet at the sand volleyball courts behind the Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.) from 1 – 2:30 pm. This camp is for players who wish to learn proper arm swing, footwork and development of jumping skills. The knowledge of the instructors will give the participants a head start on their skills in preparation for the next upcoming volleyball season. • British Sports Camp - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a new camp this summer - British Sports Camp - for kids age 5-14. This new camp will be held at Centennial Park (93rd & Nashville), June 14 – 18. Each day will be packed with a great mix of traditional British Sports and games. The camp will include: Tag Rugby, Cricket, Five-a-side Football (soccer), Kick ball, British Bull Dogs, The ‘Robin Hood Run’ Obstacle Course and much more. Each player receives a camp T-shirt and certificate. Fee for this program is $115 for Oak Lawn residents and $120 non-residents. • Kids Grow – Fun with Gardening - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a new gardening program for kids age 6-12. Kids Grow was developed so that kids can reconnect with nature by learning and having fun with gardening. Participants will learn to start and maintain their own flowering gardens. Crafts and other fun activities will also be a part of this program! Gardening gloves are strongly recommended. The program runs June 15 – August 19, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 – 11:30 am at Memorial Park. Fee for this class is $90 for Oak Lawn residents and $100 for non-residents. • Chief’s Lacrosse Summer Camp – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a Chief’s Lacrosse Camp this summer for girls and boys in grades 3-12. The camp will be held June 21- 25 at Centennial Park (93rd & Nashville). Camp times vary by grade level. Chief’s Summer Camps provide a rare opportunity for boys and girls to learn the exciting new sport of lacrosse. Goals, balls, sticks, pinnies, helmets, shoulder pads, arm guards and gloves are included in the cost of the camp. No lacrosse experience is necessary. • Veteran’s Lunch & Golf – The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting a Veteran’s Lunch and Golf program beginning Monday, June 21 at the Stony Creek Golf Course (5850 W. 103rd St.). Tee time each week is 10 am with lunch following. This is a great opportunity to come out and join other veterans from the area. • Veteran’s Golf Instruction – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering Golf Instruction for Veterans beginning Monday, June 21 at the Stony Creek Golf Course (5850 W. 103rd St.) from 11 am – 12 pm. Veterans can improve their game with instruction from a certified golf instructor. The driving range and mini golf course will also be completely accessible. Fee for this 7-week program is $50 for Oak Lawn residents and $75 for non-residents. A select lunch menu will be available in the clubhouse for $6/week. Memorial Park Informational Presentation

The Oak Lawn Park District is holding an informational presentation about proposed renovations for Memorial Park on Thursday, June 3. The presentation will begin at 6:30 pm at the Stony Creek Clubhouse in the 19th Hole. The park district is in the process of applying for a grant to renovate the existing park and would like resident input. Construction is not slotted to begin until 2013. • Sand Volleyball Leagues - Team registration is under way for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Men’s, Women’s and Co-Rec sand volleyball leagues. Fee per team is $325. Teams will participate in round robin play with game times varying each week. League play begins Wednesday, May 19 for the Competitive Co-Rec League; Thursday May 20 and Friday May 21 for the Co-Rec Recreational League; Monday, May 24 for the Men’s League and Tuesday, May 25 for the Women’s League. • TRIP: Chicago History Museum – On Tuesday, May 25 the Oak Lawn Park District is hosting a trip to the Chicago History Museum. Stroll through the galleries at you own pace on a self-guided tour. Experience the city’s greatest triumphs and trials in the Museum’s permanent exhibition, Chicago: Crossroads of America. Get a birds eye view of Chicago’s transformation in the Imagining Chicago Diorama Hall. The Chicago History Dioramas, created in 1932. Also on display is President Lincoln’s deathbed. Elevated car Number 1, Chicago’s first “L” train built in 1892 greets you on arrival. A Box lunch is included. The Motorcoach will depart the Oak View Center at 9:30 am and return at 3:30 pm. • TRIP: Ten Chimneys – On Tuesday, June 8 the Oak Lawn Park District will travel to the Ten Chimneys Estate - home of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, the most revered acting team in American theatre history. The day will begin with a tour of a mystery location. After lunch we will head to Ten Chimneys for a tour of the estate. The estate’s décor and collections are intact and unchanged since the Lunts assembled them in the 30's and 40's. Full estate tour includes main house, studio, cottage and gardens. The Motorcoach will depart the Community Pavilion at 7 am and return at 6 pm. Fee is $110 for Oak Lawn residents and $120 for non-residents. • Judo - The Oak Lawn Park District’s Summer Judo session will begin on Saturday, May 29 at the Menard Center, 90th St. & Menard Ave. Learn the basic Judo techniques of proper falling, throwing and pinning. Advanced students will learn strangle holds and arm locks. Judo is based on the philosophy of Minimum Effort - Maximum Efficiency in which you turn opponents strengths against him, therefore defeating him in the most efficient manner. This class is designed to learn Judo skills, discipline, respect, balance and coordination for sport or for self-defense. This program is open to individuals 4 years and older. Participants must wear Judo Gi (uniform) or sweatpants and sweatshirt. The beginner level classes will be held from 10 – 11 am and the intermediate/advanced level classes will be geld from 11 am – 12 pm. Fee for this program is $65 for Oak Lawn residents and $79 non-residents.



• Matsumura Shorin-Ryu Karate - The Oak Lawn Park District’s Summer Matsumura Shorin-Ryu Karate session will begin on Thursday, June 3. Classes are held at the Menard Center, 90th St. & Menard Ave., from 7:45 – 8:45 pm. Matsumura Shorin-Ryu Karate is one of the oldest systems of karate. Participants will learn the history of the system as well as its fighting and self-defense applications. A uniform is required for promotion to higher belt colors. This program is open to individuals 13 years and older. Fee for this program is $55 for Oak Lawn residents and $69 non-residents.



• Japanese Swordsmanship - The Oak Lawn Park District’s Summer Japanese Swordsmanship session will begin on Thursday, June 3. Classes are held at the Menard Center, 90th St. & Menard Ave., from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. This course covers the modern day version of actual techniques used by samurai warriors. Known as “iaido,” it is translated as drawing and cutting with a single stroke of the blade. A uniform and practice sword will be required for promotions. Wooden swords will be available for use. This program is open to individuals 13 years and older. Fee for this program is $50 for Oak Lawn residents and $62 non-residents.



• Tai Chi - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another session of Tai Chi beginning Monday, July 12 and continuing through August 30. Classes will be held Monday evenings from 7 - 8:00 pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th). Tai Chi combines proper breathing techniques with circular movements that are graceful and similar to dance. The class does not just go through the motions: participants will be worked with one-on-one and posture may be corrected physically. This program is open to individuals 18 years and older. • Family & Friends CPR Course – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a Family & Friends CPR Course on Monday, June 14 from 6:30 -8:30 pm at he Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Av.). This American Heart Association’s Family & Friends CPR course is for everyone from schoolchildren to older family members, caregivers and other adults who care for people at risk of sudden cardiac death. This course focuses on CPR and response to choking and helps participants: recognize signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults, children and infants. This is not a certification course but will prepare you to act in an emergency especially with loved ones. Participants will receive Family and Friends CPR book. • Community CPR/Heartsaver First Aid/CPR – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a Community CPR/Heartsaver First Aid/CPR Course on Thursday, June 17 from 5-9 pm at he Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Av.). This course is designed for those non-professional healthcare providers who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency on the job. This course teaches you how to recognize an emergency. Adult, Child and infant CPR techniques are taught in addition to rescue techniques for choking victims. AED use will also be covered. Completion of this course gives a 2-year certification in accordance with the American Heart Associations guidelines. All participants will be issued a Heartsaver Student Workbook and a certification card. Fee for this course is $49 for Oak Lawn residents and $65 non-residents. • Summer Day Camps - Register NOW for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Summer Day Camps. First session begins June 14th and the second session begins July 12th. • Summer Volleyball Camps - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering Summer Volleyball Camps for kids entering kindergarten through 10th. The camps will begin Monday, June 14 and run through Thursday, June 17. Classes will be held at the sand volleyball courts behind the Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.). • EVP Spiking 101 Beach Camp - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering an EVP Spiking 101 Beach Volleyball Camp Monday, June 14 through Thursday, June 17. The camp will meet at the sand volleyball courts behind the Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.) from 1 – 2:30 pm. This camp is for players who wish to learn proper arm swing, footwork and development of jumping skills. The knowledge of the instructors will give the participants a head start on their skills in preparation for the next upcoming volleyball season. • Preschool Registration – It is not too early to register for the Oak Lawn Park District’s 2010/2011 preschool programs. The park district offers affordable, quality preschool classes for 3- to 5-year-olds. The preschool programs—Learn As You Grow I, Learn As You Grow II, Play School and Prep School—are offered at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) and the Little White Building in Lake Shore Park (96th Street and East Shore Drive) and are taught by qualified instructors. • Kids Grow – Fun with Gardening - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a new gardening program for kids age 6-12. Kids Grow was developed so that kids can reconnect with nature by learning and having fun with gardening. Participants will learn to start and maintain their own flowering gardens. Crafts and other fun activities will also be a part of this program! Gardening gloves are strongly recommended. The program runs June 15 – August 19, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 – 11:30 am at Memorial Park. Fee for this class is $90 for Oak Lawn residents and $100 for non-residents. • Before & After School With FLASH – FLASH, Fun & Learning After School Hours - Register now for the 2010/2011 school year. The Oak Lawn Park District has partnered up with School District 123 for the 2nd year and is expanding to all 5 elementary schools, Covington, Hannum, Hometown, Kolmar, & Sward. The park district has also partnered up with School District 122 and their 4 elementary schools, Columbus Manor, Harnew, Kolb, & Lieb to provide FLASH for the 2010/2011 school year. • Visit the Indoor Playground at the Community Pavilion - If you have to stay inside, than play inside!
The Oak Lawn Park District’s indoor playground will be available for use any time the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak park Ave.) is open for business. Open gym fees apply and a parent or guardian must be present with their child or children at all times. The indoor playground is a non-park district staff supervised area.
The indoor playground is also now available to rent for parties. It can be rented alone or with a court to expand your party. Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance. Call 708-857-2420 for more information about daily fees and party package prices.



• Massage Therapy at the Community Pavilion - Sandra Coffey is available by appointment only. Massage therapy is used to reduce stress, increase circulation and detoxify overexerted muscles.
