• Casting Call: Hairspray auditions to be held in Oak Lawn -The Oak Lawn Park District Theatre group has announced a casting call for its upcoming production of Hairspray. Auditions will be held Monday, June 6 and Tuesday, June 7 from 7:30-10:30 pm. Come in proper attire and be prepared to sing a song from the show. Auditions will be held at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th Street and are open to those in high school (with proper ID) & older. Hairspray will run for two consecutive weekends, August 5-7 and August 12-14.















• Oak Lawn Park District Pool Memberships – Pool memberships are on sale now for 2011 Summer Swim Season at the Oak Lawn Park District’s outdoor pools. A membership grants admission to Central Pool, 9400 S. Kenton Ave., and Centennial Pool, 94th & Nashville, during open swim sessions. Memberships can be purchased at the oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., and the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave.

Membership Rates:

• Individual (age 3-59) fee is $105 for Oak Lawn residents and $169 for non-residents.

• Senior (age 60+) fee is $85 for Oak Lawn residents and $139 for non-residents

• Household Base Fee (2 people) fee is $155 for Oak Lawn residents and $239 for non-residents. An additional household individual member (age 3 & up) is $25 each. An additional household infant member (age 2 & under) is $19 each. An Additional caregiver member (age 16 & up) is $45 each.

• Summer Swim Lessons – The Oak Lawn Park District offers a variety of summer swim lessons for all ages and abilities. Classes include: Splish Splash for children 6 months to 4 years accompanied by a parent, Tiny Tot for children ages 3-5, Youth levels 1-5 for those ages 5 & up, Water Safety/Water Fun for those ages 12 and up and Adult lessons for those ages 15 and up. Lessons are offered at both pools, Central Pool, 9400 S. Kenton Ave., and Centennial Pool, 94th & Nashville and begin Monday, June 13. • Private Swim Lessons - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering private summer swim lessons for those ages 4 and up at Central Pool, 9400 S. Kenton Ave. Private lessons are a perfect way to help a child become more comfortable in the water or to advance their swimming skills. Each class is comprised of two private half-hour lessons a week. Participants’ skills will be tracked and tested the same as in group lessons. • Diving Lessons – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering Diving Lessons this summer. These lessons are an introduction to diving and are recommended for those participants who are enrolled in Advanced Level swim classes. Participants must have passed Level 3 and must be able to swim the length of the pool. Classes will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 7:20 pm at Centennial Pool, 94th & Nashville. First session begins June 14. Second session begins July 12. Fee for each session is $55 for Oak Lawn residents and $65 for non-residents. • Water Safety/Water Fun – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering Water Safety/Water Fun this summer. This program is designed for those ages 12 and up who have comfortably and successfully passed Youth Advanced Swim Level 5. Participants will continue to refine all strokes in order to swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Participants will learn: personal water safety, group water safety, basic skills for teaching and assisting with water safety classes, pre-lifeguard readiness, and fitness swimmer skills. Participants will also be trained in CPR and First Aid and may receive certification if test is passed. This class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 5 - August 11 from 5:30-6:30 pm. Fee is $100 for Oak Lawn residents and $120 for non-residents. • Lap Swim and Aqua Jogging – The Oak Lawn Park District is offering Lap Swim and Aqua Jogging at Central Pool (94th & Kenton) Monday – Saturday, June 7 - August 14 from 7 – 8:50 am. A punch card is required for entry and can be purchased at either the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) or the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.). Punch cards can be purchased for 5 or 10 visits. Fee for a 5-visit punch card is $19 for Oak Lawn residents and $25 for non-residents. Fee for a 10-visit punch card is $35 for Oak Lawn residents and $47 for non-residents. Punch cards are non-refundable and non-transferable. • George Shimko Basketball School Jump Shot School—The Oak Lawn Park is offering another session of the George Shimko Basketball School Jump Shot School beginning Wednesday, June 8. This program is geared for those ages 10-16, and is designed to teach players: The Mechanics, The Warm Up, Efficiency, Getting Open, Footwork, How to Score Off a Screen, 3 Point Shooting and Free Throws with good balance, rotation and confidence. Classes meet Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7 pm at the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave. Fee for this session is $59 for Oak Lawn residents and $72 for non-residents, and includes instruction and GSBS Stars Basketball t-shirt. • George Shimko Basketball School Shooting Session —The Oak Lawn Park is offering another session of the George Shimko Basketball School Shooting Session beginning Monday, June 6. This program is geared for those ages 5-9, and is designed to teach players the proper way to shoot the basketball. Each player will be taught how to shoot the basketball from various locations on the basketball court with good balance, rotation and confidence. Classes meet Thursday evenings from 5:30 – 7 pm at the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave. Fee for this session is $59 for Oak Lawn residents and $72 for non-residents, and includes instruction and GSBS Stars Basketball t-shirt. • George Shimko Basketball School Power Moves Session —The Oak Lawn Park is offering another session of the George Shimko Basketball School Power Moves Session beginning Monday, June 6. This program is geared for those ages 10-16, and is designed to teach players how to make strong moves to the basket. Each player will be taught how to create scoring opportunities from the 3-point line to the basket with confidence. Classes meet Friday evenings from 5:30 – 7 pm at the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave. Fee for this session is $59 for Oak Lawn residents and $72 for non-residents, and includes instruction and GSBS Stars Basketball t-shirt. • Dog Park Memberships - Memberships are available for purchase now at the Community Pavilion & the Oak View Center. Memberships will be valid for 1 or 2 years from date of purchase. • Summer Day Camps - Register NOWfor the Oak Lawn Park District’s Summer Day Camps. First session begins June 13th and the second session begins July 11th. Extended camp is available for both sessions. Camps are open to those 3 years of age through 5th grade at several convenient locations. • Summer Sports Camp - Registration is underway for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Summer Sports Camp. Sports Camp is open to those in grades 3 – 8. Participants will receive specialized instruction in a variety of familiar activities including softball, floor hockey, basketball, soccer and volleyball. Emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship, teamwork, character development, leadership skills, overall physical fitness improvement, and most important, FUN! Camp will be held Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm at the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.). First session begins Monday, June 13. Second session begins Monday, July 11. Fee per session is $300 for Oak Lawn residents and $370 for non-residents. Fee for both sessions is $590 for Oak Lawn residents and $730 for non-residents. • Summer Mini Sports Camp - Registration is underway for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Summer Mini Sports Camp. Mini Sports Camp is open to those in grades 3 – 8. Participants will receive specialized instruction in a variety of familiar activities including softball, floor hockey, basketball, soccer and volleyball. Emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship, teamwork, character development, leadership skills, overall physical fitness improvement, and most important, FUN! Camp will be held Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm at the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.). First session begins Monday, June 13. Second session begins Monday, July 11. Fee per session is $195 for Oak Lawn residents and $240 for non-residents. Fee for both sessions is $380 for Oak Lawn residents and $470 for non-residents. • 32nd Annual Tennis Tournament —The Oak Lawn Park District will host the 32nd Annual Oak Lawn Tennis Tournament at the Oak Lawn Park District’s Racquet, Fitness and Gymnastics Center, 10444 S. Central Ave., Friday, July 15th - Sunday, July 17th. The tournament offers a weekend of indoor tennis matches for different age groups and skill levels. All USTArules will apply to tournament matches. There is a limited draw and an 8-player minimum for each event. Trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner up in each division. The registration fee is $15 for singles and $30 for doubles. • Matsumura Shorin-Ryu Karate - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a summer session of Matsumura Shorin-Ryu Karate beginning on Thursday, June 2. Classes will be held at the Ice Arena, 9320 S. Kenton Ave., from 7:45 – 8:45 pm. Matsumura Shorin-Ryu Karate is one of the oldest systems of karate. Participants will learn the history of the system as well as its fighting and self-defense applications. A uniform is required for promotion to higher belt colors. This program is open to individuals 13 years and older. Fee for this program is $60 for Oak Lawn residents and $75 non-residents.

• Japanese Swordsmanship - The Oak Lawn Park District’s Japanese Swordsmanship summer session will begin on Thursday, June 2. Classes will be held at the Ice Arena, 9320 S. Kenton Ave., from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. This course covers the modern day version of actual techniques used by samurai warriors. Known as “iaido,” it is translated as drawing and cutting with a single stroke of the blade. A uniform and practice sword will be required for promotions. Wooden swords will be available for use. This program is open to individuals 13 years and older. Fee for this program is $55 for Oak Lawn residents and $69 non-residents.


• Judo - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another session of Judo at the Menard Center, 90th St. & Menard Ave. Classes are held on Saturdays and Thursdays. Saturday classes begin June 4. Thursday classes begin June 9. Learn the basic Judo techniques of proper falling, throwing and pinning. Advanced students will learn strangle holds and arm locks. Judo is based on the philosophy of Minimum Effort - Maximum Efficiency in which you turn opponents strengths against him, therefore defeating him in the most efficient manner. This class is designed to learn Judo skills, discipline, respect, balance and coordination for sport or for self-defense. This program is open to individuals 4 years and older. Participants must wear Judo Gi (uniform) or sweatpants and sweatshirt. Fee for this program is $65 for Oak Lawn residents and $79 non-residents for one day per week or $120 for Oak Lawn residents and $146 non-residents for two days per week. • Lincoln-Tallman Museum & Anderson Japanese Garden Tour Trip – The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting a trip to the Lincoln-Tallman Museum in Janesville, Wisconsin on Thursday, June 9. Tour this award winning historic 26-room Italianate villa style mansion that has been restored to its 1857 splendor. Lunch will be at the Cliffbreakers Restaurant in Rockford, Illinois. Take a self-guided tour of the unique antique collection throughout the restaurant and hotel. The rest of the afternoon will be spent at the Anderson Japanese Gardens also in Rockford. Let Me Arrange Motorcoach bus will depart the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.) at 7 am and return at 7 pm. Fee for this trip is $75 for Oak Lawn residents and $85 non-residents. • Cityscapes - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another fun Cityscapes excursion on Thursday, May 26. This time we will be heading to Chicago for a day at the Museum Campus. Visit the Shedd Aquarium or the Adler Planet. Enjoy lunch at one of the great Chicago restaurants or have a brown bag lunch on the lakefront. Fee for this trip is $14 for Oak Lawn residents and $16 for non-residents, which includes transportation. Museum admission and lunch are extra. • Oak Lawn’s Got Talent auditions - The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting Oak Lawn’s Got Talent auditions on June 8th & 9th at the Oak View Center (4625 w. 110th St). Applications for auditions are available online at www.olparks.com or at all park district facilities. Application deadline is June 1st. All talents welcomed. Finalists will perform at the 4th of July Star Spangled Celebration on July 4th at Centennial Park. The winner will then perform as the opening act at the July 4th Fireworks at Richards HS that evening. Registrations for this class will be taken at the Oak View Center (4625 w. 110th St) only. • Before & After School With FLASH – FLASH, Fun & Learning After School Hours - Register now for the 2011/2012 school year. The Oak Lawn Park District has partnered up with School District 123 and is in all 5 elementary schools, Covington, Hannum, Hometown, Kolmar, & Sward. The park district has also partnered up with School District 122 and their 4 elementary schools, Columbus Manor, Harnew, Kolb, & Lieb. • Community Pavilion Main Arena Rental - Attention high schools, colleges and businesses: Have your special event with us! The Oak Lawn Park District’s Community Pavilion is available for rentals. The arena measures 28,000 sq. ft. and can seat up to 1,000 people at tables and chairs, or 3,500 with chairs only. Reservations must be made at least six months in advance with 50% down. Payment is non-refundable after 90 days. Contact the assistant manager at (708) 857-2420 or pavilion@olparks.com.

• Indoor Playground at the Community Pavilion - The indoor playground is now available for parties: Playground rental is $45 per hour with a max of 25 children. Rental includes tables and chairs. Renter is responsible for all party decorations and refreshments (no confetti please). Add a basketball court for $20 per hour for residents and $40 per hour for non-residents. Rent a Jump House for $25. Call 708-857-2420 for more information about daily fees and party package prices.

• Massage Therapy at the Community Pavilion - Sandra Coffey is available by appointment only. Massage therapy is used to reduce stress, increase circulation and detoxify overexerted muscles. Open to men and women. A parent or guardian must accompany children under age 12. There is a 24-hour cancellation policy. To schedule a massage, call 708/857-2420.

• Personal Training at the Community Pavilion - Meet with a certified Personal Trainer who will design a program to improve your cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance. • Parent Forum & Support Group for Parents of Children with Disabilities – The Oak Lawn Park District’s Special Recreation Department offers a monthly Parent Forum & Support Group for Parents of Children with Disabilities the third Thursday of every month at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., beginning at 7 pm. Come out once a month to discuss, review, and suggest new ideas or program strategies. Also, meet other parents of children with disabilities.
