Take Time for Fun Update for the week of June 1, 2009

• Chicago Ridge Prairie Informational Meeting - The Oak Lawn Park District will be holding an informational meeting at the Chicago Ridge Prairie (105th & Menard) On Monday, June 1st at 6:30 pm. The evening’s agenda will include a brief history of the Chicago Ridge Prairie, its ecological importance and future plans and goals, which include the removal of invasive species and educational programs. Lou Mulé from Tallgrass Associates will also be on hand to answer questions. For more information please call, 708-857-2201.


• Casting Call: Grease auditions to be held in Oak Lawn - The Oak Lawn Park District Theatre group has announced a casting call for its upcoming production of Grease. Auditions will be held Monday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2 from 7:30 – 10:30 pm. Come in proper attire and be prepared to sing and dance. Auditions will be held at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th Street and are open to those in high school (with proper ID) & older. Grease will run for two consecutive weekends, July 31- August 2 and August 7 – 9.


• Centennial Pool Open House - Please join the Oak Lawn Park District on Friday, June 12 from 5:30-7 pm for the Centennial Pool Open House (94th & Nashville Ave.). Come out and see the two new slides, a 25’ high, 174” long open flume and a 9’ high drop slide and enjoy free admission, swimming (weather permitting), entertainment and giveaways every 15 minutes. • Pool Dates - The Oak Lawn Park District pools will be open Friday, June 12 through Sunday, August 16. Starting June 12, you can call the pool hotline at 708-398-6313 for the most current information on pool conditions. For pool schedule, please visit www.olparks.com.


• Summer Camps at the Oak Lawn Park District - Registration is underway for all of the Oak Lawn Park District’s summer camp programs. The park district offers a variety of fun summer camps for children ages 3 & up. Camps range from traditional day camps and sports camps to preschool camp sunshine, fitness camp, jr. naturalist outdoor adventure camp, horseback-riding camps, lacrosse camp, basketball camp and special recreation camps. • George Shimko Basketball School Shooting Session - The Oak Lawn Park is offering another session he George Shimko Basketball School Shooting Session beginning Monday, June 8. This program is geared for those ages 5-9, and is designed to teach players the proper way to shoot the basketball. Each player will be taught how to shoot the basketball from various locations on the basketball court with good balance, rotation and confidence. Classes will meet Monday evenings from 5:30-7pm at the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave. Fee for this session is $66 for Oak Lawn residents and $81 for non-residents, and includes instruction and GSBS Stars Basketball t-shirt. • George Shimko Basketball School Jump Shot School - The Oak Lawn Park is offering another session he George Shimko Basketball School Jump Shot School beginning Wednesday, June 10. This program is geared for those ages 10-16, and is designed to teach players: The Mechanics, The Warm Up, Efficiency, Getting Open, Footwork, How to Score Off a Screen, 3 Point Shooting and Free Throws with good balance, rotation and confidence. Classes will meet Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7pm at the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave. Fee for this session is $66 for Oak Lawn residents and $81 for non-residents, and includes instruction and GSBS Stars Basketball t-shirt. • Family Camp-Out - The Great Outdoors – right in your own Village! Come out and enjoy the beginning of summer camping under the stars at the Oak Lawn Park District’s Wolf Wildlife Refuge (109th & Laramie) on Friday, June 19. Participants will enjoy a scavenger hunt, late night campfire, hot dog and S’MORES roast and a continental breakfast the next morning. Campsite setup begins at 6 pm Friday evening. You must provide your own tent, sleeping bags and camping equipment. Adult fee is $8 for Oak Lawn residents and $10 for non-residents. Fee for those 12 & under is $5 for Oak Lawn residents and $6 for non-residents. Children must be accompanied by an adult in order to camp. Registration deadline is June 7th!


• Preschool Registration - Registration is underway for the Oak Lawn Park District’s 2009/2010 preschool programs. The park district offers affordable, quality preschool classes for 3- to 5-year-olds. The preschool programs—Learn As You Grow I, Learn As You Grow II, Play School and Prep School—are offered at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) and the Little White Building in Lake Shore Park (96th Street and East Shore Drive) and are taught by qualified instructors. Fee for preschool programs for 3 year olds is $670 Oak Lawn residents and $752 for non-residents. Fee for preschool programs for 4 year olds is $1000 Oak Lawn residents and $1124 for non-residents.

• The Oak Lawn Park District & The Village of Oak Lawn present the 2009 Summer Concerts and Movie Nights. We are pleased to announce our 2009 Sunday Night Concerts and Friday Night Movies! These events are free, so bring your picnic baskets, refreshments, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy some summer fun with the whole family!

• Seemore's Annual 4th Of July Bike Parade • 11:30 am
Bring your decorated bike, trike, wagon or stroller and follow the Grand Marshall Seemore the Eagle for a festive parade! Refreshments will be served to our bikers! No need to pre-register! Parade line-up will be at the front entrance of the Community Pavilion.
