• Beginner Guitar - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering beginner guitar lessons for those ages 7-12 beginning Tuesday, January 11. Students will learn the parts of the guitar, notes on the guitar, how to strum and basic chords. Classes meet at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) from 6-7 pm. Fee is $124 for Oak Lawn residents and $140 for non-residents. There is a one-time book fee of $16.25 due the first day of class. Participants must bring an acoustic or electric guitar to class. • Ballroom Dance - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another session of Ballroom Dance beginning Thursday, January 13. Learn the most popular ballroom dances, both smooth and Latin. Beginner class is from 7-8 pm and Intermediate class is from 8-9pm. Classes are held at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) Fee is per couple and is $156 for Oak Lawn residents and $196 for non-residents. Must register as a couple. • Special Olympics Basketball Day - The Oak Lawn Park District, SRASA Ltd and Special Olympics Illinois will be hosting a Special Olympics Basketball Day on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Brother Rice High School (10001 South Pulaski Road). This event will feature the Oak Lawn’s Park District’s Junior Jordans & Eagles, with a special half-time performance by the Oak. Doors will open at 12 pm. Opening ceremonies will be at 1 pm. Games will be at 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm. Tickets are $5 each and are available at the Oak View Center, 4625 West 110th Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. • Vince Clark & Friends to Perform at Stony Creek – Local Jazz musician Vince Clark will be performing at the Oak Lawn Park District’s Stony Creek Clubhouse (5850 W. 103rd St.) on Saturday, January 22. Performance begins at 7 pm. Vince Clark will perform finger-snapping classic jazz favorites accompanied by several fellow musicians. Admission is $5 at the door. Cash bar. • New Dog Obedience Class at the Oak Lawn Park District - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering a new Basic Dog Obedience class on Friday mornings from 10 -11 am beginning January 31. This class will run till March 21st at the Menard Center (5800 W. 90th St.). Fee is $79 for Oak Lawn residents and $89 for non-residents. • Magic Workshop - Oak Lawn Park District is offering a magic workshop for children ages 5- 12 on Thursday, February 3 from 6:45-7:40 pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) Participants will be delighted and amazed by Magician, Gary Kantor, who will teach age appropriate tricks. • Teen Wallyball League - The Oak Lawn Park District is taking team registrations for the Teen Wallyball League. The league is broken down into two age divisions – Jr High and High School. Teams will be made-up of 5 or 6 players. League play will begin on Sunday, February 13 with a scrimmage game to learn the rules and techniques. Games will be held at the Racquet Center (10444 S. Central Ave.). Jr. High teams will play on Sunday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm. High School teams will play on Sunday evenings from 7:30-8:30 pm. Playoffs will be held the final night with a sponsor donating $100 to whatever charity the 1st place team chooses. Team fee is $100. Fee includes a t-shirt for each team member. • Rubber-Stamping Workshop - Learn the easy art of rubber-stamping at the Oak Lawn Park District. • Before & After School With FLASH – FLASH, Fun & Learning After School Hours - Register now for the 2010/2011 school year. The Oak Lawn Park District has partnered up with School District 123 for the 2nd year and is expanding to all 5 elementary schools, Covington, Hannum, Hometown, Kolmar, & Sward. The park district has also partnered up with School District 122 and their 4 elementary schools, Columbus Manor, Harnew, Kolb, & Lieb to provide FLASH for the 2010/2011 school year. • Community Pavilion Main Arena Rental - Attention high schools, colleges and businesses: Have your special event with us! The Oak Lawn Park District’s Community Pavilion is available for rentals. The arena measures 28,000 sq. ft. and can seat up to 1,000 people at tables and chairs, or 3,500 with chairs only. Reservations must be made at least six months in advance with 50% down. • Indoor Playground at the Community Pavilion - The indoor playground is now available for parties: Playground rental is $45 per hour with a max of 25 children. Rental includes tables and chairs. Renter is responsible for all party decorations and refreshments (no confetti please). Add a basketball court for $20 per hour for residents and $40 per hour for non-residents. Come out once a month to discuss, review, and suggest new ideas or program strategies. Also, meet other parents of children with disabilities.
